David and Victoria Beckham were yesterday celebrating the birth of their third son, who they have named Cruz.

The couple said they were "delighted" after a ceasarean section delivery in Madrid yesterday morning. The baby weighed 3.2 kg.

"Mother and child are in perfect health," a statement said. "Medical intervention lasted 30 minutes with no complications whatsoever." Cruz means cross in Spanish. First son Brooklyn is now five and Romeo is two.

The former Spice girls singer married the England and Real Madrid football star in 1999.

"David and Victoria Beckham were delighted to announce the birth of their baby boy Cruz Beckham, born yesterday at 10.40 am at the Hospital Ruber Internacional, Madrid," the statement said
