Beckham Still Not Fit To Return
Wednesday, October 27, 2004

England captain David Beckham faces another two to three weeks on the sidelines because of his rib injury.

He has only undergone light training and exercises with Real Madrid's medical staff after picking up the injury in England's game against Wales.

The midfielder said: "I still have a little bit of pain and I will be out for at least another two weeks."

Meanwhile, coach Mariano Garcia Remon said Real were right to sign Michael Owen over Barcelona's Samuel Eto'o.

The club had been linked with both players but Garcia Remon told RTVE Madrid: "I like very much how Owen plays.

"He has started two games and has given us six points, I would not swap him for Eto'o."

The team boss is also confident his side can pull back the nine points that separate them and Eto'o's new employers, Barca, in the league.

He added: "The season is very long and we must concentrate on ourselves, nothing is decided yet and nine points is nothing over a whole season but we must be careful not to allow it to widen."
