Japan Move A Possibility
Monday, August 2, 2004

David Beckham has re-iterated that he could play in Japan when he reaches the end of his contract with Real Madrid.

The England captain played for Real as they defeated JEF United 3-1 on their current tour of Japan, before telling reporters that he was considering a move to the Far East in the future.

"Maybe one day, when my contract at Real Madrid expires, I will play in Japan," he said.

"Maybe I will do that at the end of my career in Europe. We enjoy playing in front of Japanese public, because they support everyone."

Beckham had hinted recently that Real Madrid's poor preparations for last season were to blame for their collapse in the second half of the campaign, and his own indifferent form at Euro 2004.

The coach who oversaw those training schedules, Carlos Queiroz, has since been replaced by Jose Antonio Camacho, and Beckham indicated he was pleased with the things were going.

"Until now the preparations that we are doing seem very good to me," he told the club's official website, www.realmadrid.com.

"Both the training sessions and the tour are very satisfying for the players."

Madrid did well to recover from a one-goal deficit to triumph against JEF.

Goals from Raul, Guti and Fernando Morientes gave the Spanish giants the victory, and Beckham was impressed by the fighting spirit his team had displayed.

He added: "When you come to a place like Japan, it is hard to get used to the humidity, but I think we played well and that was a job well done by everyone.

"We started off losing, but we were able to react and turned the game round.
