Beckham Not Fit For Real Sociedad Game
Friday, January 9, 2004
REAL Madrid will be without England star David Beckham for Saturday's Spanish first division clash at Real Sociedad as he recovers from the ankle injury he sustained last week which required four stitches.
Beckham took a blow from Murcia opponent Jose Luis Acciari in last weekend's narrow win at the Bernabeu and missed Real's Spanish Cup draw yesterday at Eibar.
Beckham said today he was still finding the injury painful and would not be able to face Sociedad, struggling against the drop having been title challengers and eventual runners-up last season.
"I'm not fit to play on Saturday," Beckham told reporters at Real's training complex.
"When I go to strike the ball it feels painful."
He added that the wound was not infected but that he was on a course of antibiotics which meant he would have to sit out the weekend.
A foot injury caused the former Manchester United star to miss earlier encounters against Real Zaragoza and Racing Santander.
